5 Taxes in Dubai You Need to Know About
The UAE is one of the lowest-tax countries in the world. Let's see why. Note that the tax system in Dubai keeps developing and can change, so always check with local tax consultants or specialists for up-to-date information.

Customs duties

Customs duty in the UAE is 5% of CIF. It applies to all commercial goods. For some goods the rate is higher, up to 100%. Some types of goods are exempt.

Tourism tax

Since 31 March 2014, Dubai has charged tourists a tax for staying in hotels and holiday apartments. Guests pay it for every night, depending on the type and star rating of the hotel. It is paid in dirhams at check-in and is the equivalent of $3 to $29.

Property tax

Unlike many other countries, the UAE does not tax income or capital gains. But when you buy property here, you pay a registration fee of 2–4% of the price. The Dubai Land Department (DLD) charges it when the deal is registered.

Corporate tax

Since 2023, corporate tax in the UAE is 9% of profit (revenue minus expenses) for all businesses with annual profit above 375,000 AED (about $102,000). Businesses with profit below this amount are exempt.

Value added tax (VAT)

Since the beginning of 2018, Dubai and the other emirates have charged VAT. VAT in Dubai is 5% and applies to most goods and services. Some categories, such as healthcare and basic food items, are exempt.
