Essential Apps for Living in Israel (2026)
Transport, taxis, parking, payments, shopping, health and government services. Updated October 2026.

Navigation and transport

Waze

The best navigation app in Israel. Google owns it, but for driving it is still more accurate than Google Maps: it shows traffic, accidents, police, speed cameras and toll roads in real time. Use it in your car or a taxi.

Google Maps

The best free option for planning a route by public transport or on foot and checking travel time. A good backup when other transit apps show wrong times.

Rav-Pass by HopOn

The official app for paying for public transport. You can't pay the driver in cash, so either load a Rav-Kav card or pay with your phone. Scan the QR code when you board a bus, light rail or train (Israel Railways, the Dankal light rail, the Carmelit and more) and the app charges you. It applies the daily and monthly fare caps automatically, and it can top up a physical Rav-Kav card through your phone's NFC.

egg (by Egged)

Egged's own transit app: real-time trip planning and QR-code payment without a Rav-Kav card. You can also top up a Rav-Kav and book intercity Egged tickets, including to Eilat. No pushy ads.

Bus Nearby (אוטובוס קרוב)

A simple, accurate app just for timetables: it shows the stops around you and real-time GPS arrivals for buses and trains all over Israel, without a crowded interface. Made by HopOn. English is supported.

Gett

The main app for ordering a licensed taxi in Israel. There is no Uber-style private driver service here: by law every driver needs a taxi licence, so Gett, Yango and Uber all send regular taxis. You can choose a fixed price or the meter and pay with a saved card. In Tel Aviv traffic and construction can mean a long wait, so order in advance or take public transport.

Yango

Gett's strong competitor, especially popular in the centre of the country, often with better prices or first-ride discounts. Yango started in Israel as a taxi app; now it also has food delivery, a market and scooter sharing.

Pango

A must for every driver, and much more than street parking:
  • Blue-and-white street parking in every city, for free: start the timer when you park and stop it when you leave. Grey kerbs are free; some streets are for residents only, so read the signs.
  • Fast Parking (Hanion Mahir): automatic entry to hundreds of garages (Azrieli, Dizengoff Center, Ahuzot HaHof and more). A camera reads your plate and the app pays, no queue at the machine.
  • Toll roads: link your car to Highway 6, the Carmel Tunnels and the Fast Lane and get one bill.
  • Public transport: pay for buses, light rail and trains by QR code (through Moovit), with the cheapest daily or monthly fare applied, for up to 9 people at once.
  • More: fuel at Sonol, EV charging with a station map, City Wash car washes, roadside SOS and Pango Cash cashback that you can spend on parking.
  • AI Sign Scan (Tel Aviv for now): photograph a parking sign and the app explains the rules.
Tip: on first install the app pushes paid plans (Pango Smart / Simple, about 15.90–19.90 NIS a month per car). They add auto-stop when you drive away and one parking fine a year on Pango. If you only need parking, look for the small "Continue with basic version" button: the basic version is free.

Cellopark

The second app for paying for blue-and-white street parking and many parking garages. Some cities and car parks work better with one app than the other, so many drivers keep both.

Scooter sharing

Electric scooters ("korkinet") for rent by the minute, mostly in Tel Aviv. Operators come and go (Tier has left the city), so check which apps work in your area: Dott, Bird, Lime and Yango. A helmet is required by law.

Moovit

For years this was the app everybody used for bus times and QR payment. Today it is so full of ads that it has become hard to use, which is why I now recommend Rav-Pass, egg and Bus Nearby above. Moovit still works for live arrival times and payment if you can live with the ads.

Shopping in Israel

Amazon

Amazon delivers to Israel, and many items now come from a local warehouse. Orders over $75 pay VAT on import (the limit has changed several times in 2025–2026, so check the current one).

Next.co.il

Clothes online, often cheaper than in the shops, with free delivery above a minimum order.

Zap.co.il

Compares prices from many Israeli shops, so you can find the best deal on electronics and appliances.

Wolt

The main food delivery app: restaurants, supermarkets and pharmacies.

Shufersal and Rami Levy

Apps of the two biggest supermarket chains. Locals order groceries to the door with them (no heavy bags in the heat or before Shabbat) and collect loyalty coupons.

Yellow (Paz)

The app of the Paz gas stations. Drivers pay for fuel from the phone, and everyone collects cashback for free coffee and pastries in Yellow shops.

Money transfers and banking

Bit

Instant money transfers by phone number, from Bank Hapoalim. Everyone in Israel has it: people use it to chip in for a gift, pay back a friend for lunch, or pay rent, a babysitter or a tutor. If someone asks "do you have Bit?", they want to send or ask for money.

PayBox

The same kind of app from Discount Bank. It is often more convenient for group "wallets", for example to collect money for a class or a shared trip. It can also issue a free digital card, and has services for businesses.

Cal (כאל)

A credit card company. Supermarket chains such as Shufersal offer co-branded Cal cards, some with no fee in the first year.

Bank Hapoalim, Leumi, Discount

The big Israeli banks. Their apps let you do almost everything without going to a branch. Fees and service differ, so compare before you open an account.

Health, government services and Hebrew

Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet, Leumit

The apps of the four health funds (kupot holim). Install the app of your fund: you book doctors, get test results, renew digital prescriptions and talk to an on-call doctor by video.

myVisit

One app for booking appointments at government offices: the Population Authority (Misrad HaPnim), Israel Post and others. Many offices only see you with an appointment from it.

Duolingo

A free way to practise Hebrew every day. Good next to an ulpan, not instead of one.
